A Look at the New Multimedia Format MP4

Among the newest entrants in the field of multimedia format is the MP4. It happens to be an offspring of MP3 format, which was venerable during its days.MP3 format was very synonymous with all media players that were readily available on the World Wide Web. These days, MP4 format is very much in demand and is sought after by many companies world wide.MP4 can be effectively used to carry digital music and other contents throughout the world.

Many companies in the world are increasingly using MP4 formats for their portable media players. This format is also increasingly used in the World Wide Web to literally stream the contents.

There exists a lot ambiguity in the usage of the term MP4.There are companies which are using the term MP4 to suggest a different functionality of their media player products. Hence, users have to clearly understand the context of its usage. For example, many portable media players use the term MP4 to describe their functions. This is nothing but a misnomer. These media players in reality do not support MP4 format. Contrary, the term is used to suggest the capability of the player to play video files along with MP3 files.

It is to be noted that original MP4 players are digital media players that can be easily found in higher end portable media players. They are also found in personal computers that run on either Windows platform or on the Mac.MP4, which can be termed as a media container can stream different types of files. Occasionally, this can surprise or confuse many. The MP4 manufacturer who created these media containers and later patented them, have started using certain kinds of file extension to denote that the file is in media container format and not a single file.

To identify which file extension is available in which area of the MP4 file, there exist different file extensions. For instance, the extension name .m4a would mean there's a file that could possibly contain digital music or videos.

There also exist other file extension names like .m4p that are used to denote that the material is secured through copyright programs. These file extensions are particularly used for digital media contents like digital music and videos that are sold through electronic stores. The file extension name gets changed to .m4a, when the media container format is used to convey electronic books or other related contents.

MP4 format can also support other types of data as well. All said and done; MP4 has certain limitations to its usage. Most of the video recorders and digital cameras still use the traditional MPEG-3 format in their daily operation.MP4 formats are generally not preferred by these gadgets.

If the manufacturers of these MP4 players are anything to go by, then they can support almost all media contents, from raw unedited videos to raw images to edited formats and so on. This format is also widely used in other non-PC related technologies. For example, digital video discs use them to carry foreign subtitles along with other multimedia contents. Finally, there is no denying the fact that this type of format is here to stay and to make our life different.
