Where to Begin with Scrapbooking

Scrapbooking can be a facinating hobby. Compared to regular photo albums, scrapbooks almost always contain more than simply images but also a plethora of keepsakes. There are no real rules in assembling scrapbooks because it is left up to ones creativity and thought. You will not have to spend a fortune to start a scrapbook project, used items will suffice. A scrapbook is an ideal to preserve memories of a special occasion such as a baptism, a retirement party, or a farewell party. It may include captions, newspaper clippings and several various items.

Scrapbooking is also a fun way to keep your pics and other mementos. Opposed to a cluttered office or bins, a scrapbook is more easily accessible and can be reviewed by other people over and over again. If this is your attempt assembling a scrapbook, the following tips could be useful.

1. Photograph Organization.

Group those that were shot at the same period together. You might want to assemble them according to the content of the photographs ie family, school, Christmas celebrations, reunions by year, etc. You may want to make a different scrapbook for every occasion.

2. Make a theme.

For instance, choose a certain color paper for your child's scrapbook and another color for the scrapbook that will contain your family vacations, and so on. Making cover pages for every theme would also be a good idea. The cover pages do not need to be too elaborate. A simple caption and few designs will do. Aim on having the main pages unique. It would be better if all your pages follow the same format.

3. Choose which scrapbook to make.

There is a large variety of scrapbooks available in craft stores and hobby shops. They are found in various materials, sizes, colors, shapes and the majority of them are easily affordable. If you want, you can create your own without much trouble. Bind colored papers using a ribbon or a string. The variations are endless.

4. Materials Preparation.

Scrapbooking craft stores and bookstores carry scrapbooking items. You may use anything to spice up your pages. Most popular choices include strings, tiny paper clips, ribbons, glitter, stickers, and so on.

5. Use words.

Words can be very useful tools, especially in scrapbooks. Fun descriptions bring life to your images and capture the mood and atmosphere of fun times. Your captions need not be long and perfect. Casual writing will do. Use various colored markers and pens. The goal is to allow the "journalist" in you to come out. Capture more than just your images but your mementos, such as invitations, tickets, and so on, as well.

6. Use print.

If you don't think you have great handwriting, use your word processor for your captions. With your computer, you could even print designs on sticker paper or borders on your pages.

7. Crop and mat your pictures.

Cropping simply entails cutting or removing irrelevant aspects of photos in an effort to create them more exciting or make them work with your scrapbook template. You might want to use scrapbooking scissors to com in order to separate them into more exciting shapes. Matting, on the other hand, helps your pictures last longer. Matting products are readily available in hobby shops.
