A Glance At District Of Columbia's GW School Of Engineering And Applied Science

The District of Columbia has a number of good engineering schools all over the state.

The School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS) is a college within the University of Washington in the District of Columbia which specializes in engineering, technology and communications, and transportation.

In the District of Columbia, George Washington School of Engineering and Applied Science is one of the best engineering schools. With so much happening at GW and in Washington, District of Columbia, students who study at SEAS have the chance to be part of a unique mix of activities. Whether they are interested in research opportunities at federal research labs and agencies, internships with companies in the nation's second biggest high-tech corridor, the arts and cultural environment of our nation's capital, or simply being part of a college community. One of the best engineering courses they specialize is, the Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. Under the Mechanical Engineering course, the student has three options:

* Aerospace Option in Mechanical Engineering - The Aerospace Engineering Option leads to a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering while preparing the student to work in the aerospace industry or to pursue a graduate study in Aerospace Engineering. The course provides a strong foundation in aerodynamics, airplane performance, propulsion, aerospace structures, orbital mechanics, spacecraft dynamics, and aircraft and spacecraft design.

* The Bio mechanical Engineering Option - The Bio mechanical Engineering Option leads to a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering while preparing the student to work in the biomedical industry or to pursue graduate a study in biomedical engineering. The course provides a strong foundation in human anatomy and physiology, bio mechanics, bio materials and design of biomedical devices.

* Patent Law Option in Mechanical Engineering - The Patent Law Option leads to a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering while providing a strong foundation in fundamental principles of patent law and the influences of the US patent system on today's modern engineering design. A student in this option obtains background that can lead to work as a technical specialist in a patent law firm or in the patent department of an industrial company. The course also provides excellent preparation for pursuit of a subsequent law school degree in intellectual property.

Mechanical and aerospace engineering focuses on the study of forces and energy that controls the motion of components and systems. Mechanical and aerospace engineers study the conversion, transfer and control of energy from its source to its point of application in order to plan, design, manufacture, distribute and operate a wide variety of systems to meet the needs of nation.

By 2015, with regards the District of Columbia future needs, the School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS) envisions of becoming one of the top 50 engineering schools in the country, with nationally and internationally recognized fields of excellence. Over the next five years, SEAS will target three primary areas to meet its vision:

* Education: SEAS will foster a vibrant atmosphere where an intellectually diverse faculty offer outstanding, academically rigorous educational programs, and provide students with challenging theoretical and applied learning experiences that are relevant to nation's current and future scientific and technological needs.

* Research: SEAS will become recognized as a source of new ideas and knowledge that supports technological advancement through basic and applied research and technology transfer.

* Service: SEAS faculty will contribute their expertise and information to the public through a variety of outreach and community service activities, particularly through their efforts as mentors on engineering related subject matters.

The District of Columbia plays an important role in today's technology. With the initiative of universities like Washington School of Engineering and Applied Science, the District of Columbia will continue to contribute to the future's technology.
