Football Traditions

Football is the American pastime, but there is much more to football than game. In fact, traditions, both big and small that revolve around this sport is what has morphed into something more.

This article talks about the traditions surrounding the game that are just as important to fans, players, and businesses. First the advertising, seconded the tailgating, and third the home parties and fan camaraderie.

Advertising in Football

A large tradition that exists in the consumer world is the advertisements--especially the super bowl ads. The super bowl is regarded as the most watched game of the year, year after year. The super bowl commercials have grown in fame. It is the only time that football fans not only want to see the game, but actually stay to see the commercials.

These commercials have grown in popularity and cost. The costs of the ads have risen from around 60,000 in the 70s to over 2.6 million for the last year. For their reward, the super bowl advertisements will reach the largest fan base to sit down in front of the TV. And they will most likely watch, laugh and drink in the advertising more than any other game.

Tailgating in Football

Tailgating is another tradition in football. This tradition for fans can be just as important as the game itself. There are cook offs, spontaneous football games, talks of old times and loyal fans. The tailgate parties can vary from team to team and from professional to high school. Amongst the most devoted tailgating fans there can be strong traditions, bands playing, players immortalized on the grid iron, and more than one grill of brats going.

Home Parties and fan Camaraderie

The most faithful friends can be those of fans. From family and neighborhood block parties, to jerseys, flags, and tailgating. It is the fans that have the biggest tradition of this game. As the game gets bigger and expands into the internet you see forums and fan groups. But, nothing will take over a couple of fans in front of a TV screaming their favorite teams to victory.
