Can Gas Stations Make Use of IP Surveillance Technology?

In this age of self-service, there is always a threat or two of security. If you are running a gas station, you should know a thing or two about it. There is always a possibility of drive-offs. In case a drive-off happens at your station, both your station and the attached convenience store could be under threat. In such a scenario, an IP surveillance solution could be of immense help to you.

It is not uncommon to see a person driving up to your station in a car; fill up the tank and drive-off without paying. Even though, such occurrence has lessened considerably with the advent of prepaid services; such instances occur every now and then. If you have an IP surveillance solutions set up at your station, this problem can be solved to a greater extent.

A network camera that can be used in IP surveillance is totally different from the traditional CCTV cameras. The latter gives analog videos as output while the former can give you a digital one. A digital camera can offer you a higher resolution when a car zooms in and out of the station. In case you incorporate video analysis software in digital imaging, you can expect better quality pictures. You can thus get the pictures of car number plates and at better quality. The images thus taken can be sorted out very easily through surveillance video.

The presence of IP surveillance technology would instill a cautious approach in the minds of drivers visiting the gas stations. They would be well aware that in case they drive-off, their car number plate information would be revealed through the camera. This will enable them to get caught and brought to justice. In a way, this system deters possible offenders and would prevent them from committing such acts.

The IP surveillance technology would be of help not just to gas stations but also to the attached convenience stores. More often than not, these stores are often targeted by looters, as there are a center of high turnovers, huge transactions and long working hours. In the case of an act of robbery or criminal proceeding taking place at the store, the surveillance camera would be able to track the sequence of events taken place in real time. This could later act as a proof while nabbing the person and handing over to the cops.

Employees of these gas stations and convenience stores often have to work in night shifts. It raises fear of security and thus creates an unfavorable environment to work in. By providing IP surveillance solutions, these employees can feel a lot safer and can work without any tension or fear. There are other advantages to these solutions as well. Firstly, they are easy to get installed. Secondly, remote monitoring access is possible through these solutions.

This will enable the computer operator to log on to the network and feed the videos. Should an undesirable event occur at the gas station or at the store, an alert message can be sent to the concerned manager. The manager can in turn log on the system and view the videos in real time. He will then be able to know the exact situation in hand and can act accordingly.
