Prepaid Cell Phones Give You More Control

Many large cell phone companies offer prepaid cell phone plans for customers who prefer to use the prepaid or pay as you go method for their mobile devices.

It used to be that the standard way you would get a mobile phone in the United States was by signing a contract with a cellular service provider. The prepaid model was more associated with European markets. But this has been changing in the past few years. As the wireless market gets more and more competitive, the big companies are trying to compete in more ways by offering many different options for the more discerning consumer.

There are a few reasons why some people choose to use prepaid cell phones.

1) They do not want to sign a contract. This is a primary reason why people opt to sign up for a prepaid or pay as you go offer for their cell phones. If the service of your provider is very bad, you are still stuck with them. You have no way out of the contract with a cell phone company after you sign it.

Oh wait, you do have a way out, but that brings me to my next point.

2) People do not want to pay fees to break their contract. Cell phone providers charge fees in the several hundreds of dollars when customers want to end their service. This, my friends, is a complete rip-off. Why should customers be forced to sign contracts anyway. Luckily, this model is becoming less popular as more and more people opt for prepaid cell phones. It is simply ridiculous to have to pay a fee when your service is bad and you want to move on.

3) No Commitment. This point is also an extension of points one and two. If you are unhappy with the service of your prepaid company, then you can move on to another company. One downside is that you will have to purchase a new phone in many cases because many services only work on their own cell phone handsets. But you will pay less than the two hundred dollar fee to break your contract. With a prepaid phone, you can move onto another company and find the best fit for you--all without having to pay a ridiculous fee or doing back flips to get out of an unfair contract.

4) Many people opt for the prepaid or pay as you go cell phone model because they do not want to undergo a credit check. With the typical contract service, potential customers generally are subjected to a credit check. If they pass, they will be given the illustrious privilege of paying very high rates for their cell phones and being stuck in a contract with a company that doesn't always have their best interests at heart.

There are many people out there who do not have good enough credit to pass and will therefore not be given the opportunity of mobile communication. If these people want a cell phone, then they need to go with a prepaid cell phone.

As you can see, there are many reasons why you may want to consider a prepaid plan. Some of the companies who offer this kind of service are Tracfone, Verizon wireless, T-mobile, Sprint, Cricket, and Venture mobile. There are many choices and many different plans you can weigh out while looking for the best plan that works for you.

You can choose from family-wide plans with shared minutes and many other aspects that may change the rates you pay each month. One of the most attractive things prepaid plans offer is that you have total control over the minutes you use. I call it more control because you choose how many minutes you buy each month and use them as you see fit. One month you may want to use more talk time than another, but the next you might want to use only have the minutes. If you were on a standard phone plan with Verizon or T-Mobile, you wouldn't be able to change the minutes you pay for from month to month.

5) Many people want control over their monthly bills. There are many people out there who either do not use all their monthly allotted minutes or who go way over their monthly minutes. Both of these groups of people are losing money either by over-paying an not using all their phone minutes or by going over their minutes and paying ridiculous overage fees. Overage fees are a rip-off. Do not be a sucker and keep on paying these. Go with a prepaid cell phone.

With a prepaid phone, you control how many minutes you use because you buy them as you use them. In addition, many prepaid plans do not have any roaming charges. That's a nice bonus.
